Garden is Growing

Although April was warm and we were home, I didn't let it fool me into planting too early. May is the busiest time of year for us here, so I planted some things a couple weeks earlier, but not by too much. Prepping the soils, screening compost, setting up irrigation lines and planting seeds takes a lot of time. It is mid-June now and things are starting to grow and I've re-planted the sections that didn't germinate. Now we just need some summer heat!

Peas and beans - I put up wire trellises this year, hopefully they do a better job of supporting the weight.

Root crops - carrots, beets, onions, parsnips and turnips. Just weeded, re-seeded and ready to go.

More peas, beans, potatoes and the lettuce crops - I keep planting more for fresh growth of the lettuce greens.

Corn and brassicas. I'm having a bit of trouble with both of these this year... the slugs love the cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower so I'm battling them constantly. The corn just really needs some heat!

Over 1000 bulbs of garlic this year, 14 different varieties. Scapes are coming on now, which are so delicious!

This is the pumpkin/squash patch this year. We began clearing the land at Easter by dropping 6 huge trees, then we had to till the soil, dig in an irrigation line, set up the infrastructure and plant... these plants were late getting in (early June) but hopefully they do well this year.

Tomatoes, peppers and cucumber doing well in the greenhouse.

Orchard trees this year... apples, cherry, plum, pear and quince. After their first winter we had three not survive, so we'll have to re-plant next year.

Strawberries are going crazy right now, we have to pick every day!

I love my herb garden :)

We should have a fantastic crop of raspberries this year as well.
